PAST
Lacrosse was introduced to Italy in sping of 2001 by Robert Corna. With the help og Mike Eckert, the sport found a home base at "The American Overseas School of Rome", where the first practices were held. In the sping of 2002, Italy held itīs first Lacrosse Games ever. Teams from Austria and Czech Republic came to Rome for tournament.
PRESENT
Trough generous equipment donation made by possible by Steven Stenersen, the ILF and Warrior Lacrosse, Italy now has one menīs team, and youth boys team (Ages 9 to 17) ITALY UNITED is a team that was put together to promote the development of Lacrosse in Italy. This team played in the International Open (Perth, Australia, 6-14 JULY, 2002) and finished at 2nd place. The team was composed of Italians, as well as Americans, Australian and one Argentine player, all of italian descent.
FUTURE
This summer, a 3-on-3 version of Box-Lacrosse will be introduce at "Big Gym", an outdoor sports center next to Romeīs Olympic Stadium. In the fall, Italyīs first Girls Lacrosse Team will have itīs first practices. We are presently seeking recognition from C.O.N.I. (Nat. Olympic Commitee of Italy), as well as planning a youth tournament in Rome for the late fall. A summer Lacrosse and Cultural camp is in development for Summer 2003.
